A Message on SNAP benefits from President SeQuoia Kemp

At Café Sankofa, we've always believed that access to food is a basic right. No one should have to wonder where their next meal will come from or if their child will have enough to eat.

Dear Cafe Sankofa Community,

At Café Sankofa, we’ve always believed that access to food is a basic right. No one should have to wonder where their next meal will come from or if their child will have enough to eat.

Over the past few weeks, as changes to SNAP benefits have taken effect, we have felt the worry and hardship in our community.

We want you to know: you are not alone.

There is worry, but there is also strength.

In moments like this, our role becomes even clearer. We show up, we listen, and we help however we can. That means continuing to provide healthy food, community support, and making sure our space stays open to all.

We know that many are carrying heavy loads right now. If you need support, please come by as we are continuing to offer food $en$e boxes and will be having a mutual aid event on Saturday, the 8th, from 12pm  to 4 pm, and Saturday the 14th from 3 pm to 6 pm. And if you’re in a position to give or volunteer, your time and care make a difference.

Café Sankofa was built on the idea that we heal together. Especially when times are hard, we find strength in each other.

Together, we can make sure that no one has to face this alone.

Sincerely,

SeQuoia Kemp, Café Sankofa President
