Sankofa is a word in the Twi language of Ghana that translates to "go back and get it." The word Sankofa is represented by the Asante Adinkra symbol, with either a stylized heart shape or by a bird with its head turned back and its feet forward.
Café Sankofa Cooperative is looking for you to assist us with "getting our community!"
We are a new arts and cultural space designed on the principle of cooperative economics. The intention of Cafe Sankofa is to:
* Provide a shared market space with food-prenuers, artisans, and other entrepreneurs as a resource for the growth of local businesses (village marketplace)
* Operate a small café with coffee, tea, and other grab-to-go food options
* Provide a communal space for curated events (informational sessions, Yoga, financial literacy, etc.) that contribute to the overall health and wellness of the residents within the area
* Offer a location where inner-city residents can access fresh and healthy food
The Café Sankofa Cooperative has been reimagined into a vibrant community hub! Over the past several months, the new Board of Directors has been implementing a new business model for this community space. The new board remains fully committed to the cooperative model, an evidence-based strategy for encouraging community and economic development.
